Art Brut is a term coined by the famous artist Jean Dubuffet to describe the art made by people free of artistic culture and includes loners, prisoners, patients in psychiatric hospitals - fringe people who know nothing of traditional art rules or standards. Dubuffet created a collection of such works of art and permanently moved the collection to Lausanne in 1976. We were lucky enough to spend an afternoon there. Not far from the museum of Art Brut was this beautiful cathedral. One of the more notable scenes inside was the stack of wooden vampire stakes lying on the altar. Okay, maybe they were doorstops. Whatever. |
